ISA at DIETS-EFAD Conference 2014: leading scientific experts will meet to discuss the merits of low calorie sweeteners in addressing European public health concerns

Brussels 2 October 2014 – Athens, Greece – On the 11th October the International Sweeteners Association (ISA) will host a symposium on “Low calorie sweeteners – A fundamental choice in weight management and diabetes” as part of the 8th DIETS-EFAD Conference, which takes place between the 9th and 12th of October in Athens, Greece.

The annual conference brings together health care professionals from across Europe and beyond, to examine the role of dieticians and the challenges they face in addressing the current and predicted increase in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD). It is an opportunity for discussion and information sharing on key issues and latest research related to public health concerns. With this in mind, the ISA will bring together leading experts in the fields of weight management and diabetes to explore the merits of low calorie sweeteners in addressing key global health concerns.

The symposium will be co-chaired by Professor Antonis Zampelas, Professor of Nutrition, United Arab Emirates University, UAE; Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, and Dr Duane Mellor, Assistant Professor in Dietetics, University of Nottingham, UK.

The international panel of experts will include:

  • Prof James Hill, Professor of Paediatrics and Medicine, University of Colorado, USA;
  • Dr France Bellisle, Researcher of the Nutritional Epidemiology Unit, University Paris 13, France; and
  • Dr Aimilia Papakonstantinou, Lecturer in Nutrition and Metabolism at the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece.

The ISA will also have an information booth at the event where participants can find the latest scientific literature and information on low calorie sweeteners.
