ISA-SBAN Webinar: “Recommendations and regulation on the use of low/no calorie sweeteners: global and Brazilian perspectives” [English recording]

At a webinar organised on 1st December 2023 by the International Sweeteners Association (ISA) and hosted by the Brazilian Society for Food and Nutrition (SBAN), a non-profit organisation with scientific aims with the mission to disseminate knowledge in the field of food and nutrition, three international renowned experts were invited to talk about the latest scientific evidence behind the role and benefits of low/no calorie sweeteners; how low/no calorie sweeteners can be part of a balanced diet and the legislation on table and dietary sweeteners in Brazil.

From the importance of robust scientific methodologies to the support in dietary and clinical practice guidelines of the use of low/no calorie sweeteners as a clinical and public health strategy for reducing caloric intake, while achieving short and long-term weight loss benefits, the topics discussed at this webinar are important for public health. All speakers agreed that public health and regulatory decisions should be based on the best available scientific evidence to reassure and increase consumers’ confidence.
