The International Sweeteners Association (ISA) supports World Diabetes Day 2025 and addresses common workplace-related questions about #DiabetesLife.
Every year on 14 November, the International Sweeteners Association (ISA) joins the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in celebrating World Diabetes Day (WDD) to help raise awareness about diabetes prevention and management.
The theme of the WDD 2024-2026 campaign, “Diabetes and well-being,” highlights how diabetes can affect every part of a person’s life, often having a negative impact on overall well-being. Globally, 589 million adults are living with diabetes, and 7 in 10 are of working age. Yet, almost half remain undiagnosed, facing risks of complications that may further impact their well-being.
In 2025, the WDD campaign focuses on diabetes and well-being at work, exploring how workplaces can become more inclusive, supportive environments for people living with diabetes.
ISA video for #WDD2025: Diabetes at work
For this year’s campaign, the ISA has collaborated with the Mexican Diabetes Federation (Federación Mexicana de Diabetes) to shed light on the realities of living with diabetes in the workplace.
In the ISA video, Mónica Hurtado González, Nutritionist, Diabetes Educator, and Academic Manager at the Mexican Diabetes Federation, shares her expert insights on how employees and employers can work together to foster well-being and inclusion for people living with diabetes. Drawing on her professional experience in nutrition and diabetes education, she discusses the importance of access to balanced meals, proper hydration, and appropriate storage for medication in workplace settings. The conversation also highlights how stress and irregular eating schedules can influence blood glucose levels, and how simple, supportive measures, such as offering healthier food choices and providing nutrition flexibility, including options with low/no calorie sweeteners, can make a meaningful difference. These actions not only help people with diabetes better manage their condition but also promote overall well-being among all employees.

The role of nutrition and well-being for a better life with diabetes
Maintaining good nutrition and overall well-being is essential for everyone, and it’s especially important for people living with diabetes. A healthy, balanced diet helps regulate blood glucose levels, maintain energy, and support both physical and emotional health.
In a busy workplace, where schedules and stress can easily disrupt healthy habits for people living with diabetes, allowing time for meals, encouraging short breaks, and providing access to a variety of healthy food options during meetings or in canteens/ cafeterias is particularly helpful in keeping blood glucose levels under control. These actions contribute to a better life with diabetes in an inclusive, supportive workplace environment.
Low/no calorie sweeteners can offer wider food choices and dietary flexibility in the workplace for people living with diabetes, so that they do not feel deprived. By providing sweetness without affecting blood glucose or insulin levels, they can help reduce sugar intake while maintaining the enjoyment of sweet-tasting foods and drinks. This contributes to better adherence to healthy eating patterns and supports a positive relationship with food.
