The International Sweeteners Association (ISA) supports World Diabetes Day 2026 and its theme, “Early action on diabetes”, highlighting the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and timely care.
Today, 1 in 9 adults worldwide is living with diabetes, while 635 million adults are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Moreover, up to 50% of people with type 2 diabetes already have complications at the time of diagnosis. These figures underscore the urgent need to act early: timely prevention and diagnosis can help save lives, improve health outcomes and reduce the long-term burden on healthcare systems.
Every year on 14 November, ISA joins the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the wider diabetes community in marking World Diabetes Day, the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign.
The role of nutrition in diabetes management: how can low/no calorie sweeteners help?
Alongside access to quality healthcare, nutrition and lifestyle are important components of diabetes management and strategies to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
For people living with diabetes, dietary choices can play an important role in managing blood glucose levels. When used in place of sugars, low/no calorie sweeteners provide sweetness without raising blood glucose levels and can help reduce overall sugar and calorie intake. In this way, they can offer greater flexibility in food choices while supporting a balanced and enjoyable diet.
