LOW CALORIE FOODS, BEVERAGES AND SWEETENERS CAN THEY REALLY CONTRIBUTE TO A HEALTHIER FUTURE?
|
Bibliothèque Solvay, Brussels 19 May 2011 09.00 - 17.00
This one day conference will address topics such as our desire for sweet taste, sweeteners and appetite, their role in weight management and the safety of low calorie sweeteners. It will also challenge some of the myths that surround low calorie sweeteners - do they really make you fat? Or can you overdose on sweeteners?
The conference will be hosted by Stefan Gates, a food adventurer and television presenter. Stefan presented
'E-Numbers: An Edible Adventure', the myth-busting food science series broadcast on BBC2, and wrote an accompanying book.
Confirmed speakers include: Prof. Andy Renwick, an internationally recognised expert on the safety of low calorie sweeteners (University of Southampton, UK); Dr. Tommy Visscher, specialised in epidemiological research into the prevention of obesity (Vrije Universiteit, Netherlands); Dr Margaret Ashwell OBE, is an independent nutrition scientist, and has acted as a disseminating partner for EU projects including the EU Childhood Obesity Programme, EARNEST and EURRECA; Mr Joris Van Loco, Director of the Food, Medicines, and Consumer Safety Group (Scientific Institute of Public Health, Belgium) and Prof. John Brewer, specialist in sports nutrition (University of Bedfordshire, UK).
